Earlier this month we filmed a new visual work for my song “Slow It Down,” and I’m really excited about what’s beginning to take shape.
The project centers on choreography created and performed by dancers Jakub Jakoubek and Emeline Rochefeuille, known together as J’Em. Before filming, we met over video during pre-production to talk about the concept and the spirit of the work. From the start it felt like a very natural creative connection. Jakub and Emeline bring such sensitivity and artistry to movement, and I loved seeing how they approached it.
Although I wasn’t physically in the studio on the day of filming, I was closely involved in shaping the project leading up to it and followed the shoot as it unfolded. Filming took place in Portland at the Picture This Studio, where the team spent the day exploring how movement, light, and camera work could come together to create the visual world around the choreography. The result is a music-driven film built around performance created specifically for this project.
Thank you to Lindsay Gauthier for directing the film and shaping its artistic vision, to Heath Orchard for the beautiful cinematography, to producer Šárka Kalusová for guiding the project from the beginning, and to the entire crew who made the day possible.
A warm thank you to Bill Cantos, the music director/arranger for my original song “Slow It Down.”
Over the next few weeks we’ll be filming additional segments featuring me that will become part of the final piece, and then off to the editing stage where it will all come together.
I’m looking forward to sharing it with you soon.
